The basic claim and premise of Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) is that if anyone can produce an extraordinary achievement or level of expertise, and assuming enough high-quality information can be elicited as to how that behavior occurs, anyone should be able to integrate key components of the behavior to produce similar results.

NLP proponents claim they can eliminate phobias in a single session. Students report that they learned simple skills to receive at least a letter grade higher. Memory can be dramatically enhanced. Business associates communicate more effectively and teams learn to work seamlessly together. Public speakers perform with natural ease and confidence. Sales people become irresistibly persuasive. Long term habitual behaviors like smoking can be changed overnight typically without withdrawal symptoms. Communicators learn to gain deep and lasting rapport quickly and easily.  In short, NLP Practitioners believe that virtually any behavior can be modeled and transferred to others and that any outcome can be achieved if it is broken down into sufficiently small steps and sequenced properly.

NLP stands for Neuro Linguistic Programming, a rather technical term for how the brain and nervous system specifically process data that is received from the world around us via the five senses and is processed to generate behavior. NLP then, is a set of techniques that appear to apply to every area of life. Two of the primary areas of training in this experiential field focus on individual state mastery and the ability to gain deep and lasting rapport at the introductory level. NLP has been called, “The Science of Subjective Reality,” “The Study and Application of Excellence” and, “An Attitude and Methodology Leaving Behind a Trail of Techniques.”
